There’s Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and much, much more when you head down to Wonderland, playful and interactive exhibition based on Lewis Carroll’s timeless stories of Alice and her adventures through Wonderland. Developed by Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), of its global tour at ArtScience Museum.

to take trip through the looking glass into an and amazing audiovisual artworks, Wonderland spectacularly conjures up the surprising and magical world of Alice and her adventures.

Powell ACMI/Phoebe Since first gracing the silver screen in 1903, Alice has delighted audiences in more than 40 arthouse and blockbuster cinematic odysseys. Wonderland reveals how artists and filmmakers have portrayed Alice and her story for over century, since her first appearance on the page in 1865. Visitors to the exhibition can see how the precocious heroine has become subcultural icon through her presence in music videos, video games, high fashion, advertising and more.

Drawing together remarkable selection of original behind-the-scenes material, the exhibition includes over 300 artefacts and objects, including first edition books, drawings, original costumes, films, magic lantern projectors, animation, puppetry, and original work by theatrical designer Anna Tregloan, and digital creative studios, Sandpit, Grumpy Sailor and Mosster Studio.

Wonderland takes its inspiration from Lewis

stories, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There. These stories have been adapted dozens of times for the screen over century, which makes the history of Alice in Wonderland on screen, way of being able to trace the history of moving image. The exhibition charts the compelled filmmakers to create their own visual interpretation of Alice and her adventures.

From the first screen adaptation by Cecil Hepworth in 1903 to the contemporary blockbusters of the 2000s, Wonderlandalso 3D and beyond. Films such as Lou Bunin’s Alice Au Pays des Merveilles (1949), Jan Svankmajer’s acclaimed Alice (1988), the Quay Brothers’ experimental Alice in Not So Wonderland (2007), and television versions by broadcasters BBC and NBC will be featured in the exhibition.

American Art in New York, Piano’s work continues to human spirit.

Born in Genoa in 1937 into family of builders, he set up the Piano Rogers office in London in 1970 together with Richard Rogers RA, with whom he won the competition for the Centre Pompidou. In 1981 the architect founded the Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW). Located in Paris, Genoa and New York, with team of 150 staff, RPBW has realised over 100 projects that include large cultural and institutional buildings, housing and offices, as well as urban plans for entire city districts. Piano places great importance on the crafting of elegant buildings “piece by piece”, Piano’s practice makes deft use of form, material and engineering to achieve precise yet poetic elegance. He has command of the entire as well as aesthetic and haptic qualities. Such is the importance of these aspects of the architecture, that fullscale mock-ups of sections of the buildings are created during the design process to test how they will look and feel, from the composition as whole, to smaller technical details.

From now til 20 January, 2019 the Royal Academy of Arts will present the first comprehensive survey of Piano’s career to be held in London since 1989. Presented in the Gardens, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the Royal Academy, Renzo Piano: The Art of Making Buildings will offer an overview of the architect’s practice through 16 of his most significant projects, dating from his early career systems, to the signature buildings of the present day. Marie Tjibaou Cultural Centre, Nouméa (1998), The New York Times Building (2007), The Shard, London (2012), Jéréme Seydoux Pathé Foundation, Paris (2014) and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2015). drawings will reveal the process behind the conception and realisation of Piano’s best known buildings. For example, on display will be one of the original models made during the design process for the Menil Collection in Houston (1986), showing how Piano and his team rigorously explored creative ways to bring natural light into the galleries, creating spaces that would be ideal for viewing art.

Other highlights will include the white ceramic rods from the 1:1 mock-up of The New York Times Building, produced to test their scale, surface and reflectivity, as well as the Cultural Centre in Noumea that captivated the jury. At the heart of the exhibition, there will be focus on the architect himself through 16 photographs by Gianni Berengo Gardin and specially commissioned film by Thomas Centro Botin, 2017.
