THE TEMPLE OF HEAVEN place for worship for emperors in the Ming and Qing Dynasty, The Temple of Heaven is cluster of Beijing’s most sacred buildings. Here, old temples and shrines are set out in two sections one rectangular and the other semi-circular to symbolise heaven and earth. Today, tt rificial compound is where locals come early in the morning to do their exercises and get together for song and play. One of its wonders is the brightly decorated Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests erected using traditional Chinese architecture of wood and entirely without nails featuring three-tier marble terrace aie: roof covered with 50,000 blue glazed tiles. HUTONG BEIJING hutong is narrow lane in Beijing between traditional folk houses, and in the past, the city was filled with hundreds of them. Unfortunately due to city construction,

many have been replaced by today’s modern streets. Now, no more than 1,000 remain in the old town and have been transformed into commercialised tourist

attractions filled with street food stalls, souvenir shops, bars and few shops selling goods to the locals. Still, they are worth visit. Two main areas are the Shichahai and Bell/Drum Towers not far from The Forbidden City, and the Qianmen and Dashilar Area near Tiananmen Square. Take stroll along the twisted lanes of these hutongs

to explore the traditional homes for touristy thing to do which is to take

feel of what it was like, or you can opt for the

rickshaw to guide you for special tour.

TIP: Want different hutong tour? Rent the lanes.

MING TOMBS UNESCO World Heritage, the Ming Tombs is one of the best-preserved imperial mausoleums in the world with 13 tombs from the Ming Dynasty. At present, only the Dingling Tomb, Changling Tomb and Zhaoling Tomb (‘ling’ here meaning ‘tomb’) are open to the public to go into the burial chambers to view unearthed precious relics and imperial coffins. Because the area is so vast, it is almost impossible to visit all (or even two!). Our recommendation? The Dingling Tomb is ideal if you have no problem

with your knees as it requires some climbing down from the entrance while the

Changling Tomb is for those who have some difficulty in walking.

TIP: There are different ticket prices for each tomb so be sure to check ahead.

On 12 May, the team caught the sunset at Annapurna Base Camp. Then on 13 May, the team managed to catch the breathtaking view of the sunrise. With time to spare, they headed to Mount Himchuli (6,.441m) as an alpine mountaineer special training exercise and made it up to 6,000 metres before bad weather hampered their summit. However, despite the bad weather it was an exhilarating and rare experience for any team to hit the Annapurna Base Camp twice within 24 hours! Find out why Jeju Island is called the “Hawaii of South Korea”.

See
Hallasan is the island’s dormant volcano and a UNESCO Biosphere reserve. You can time your visit to catch the different colours of the season or, book a hike to explore the slopes, the crater lake and other parasitic volcanoes. The eight-kilometre Manjang Cave, a UNESO Geopark, will delight those who love the dark and eerie with its one-kilometre passageway open to visitors.

Do
Make a trip to Jungmun Beach or Seogwipo to watch the haenyo at work. These are the island’s famous women divers who continue their trade of diving for abalone, octopus, squid and clams without any breathing apparatus. These women dive well into their 80s, and are the pride of the island.

Shop
Check out Jeju’s busiest traditional market, Dongmun. Lots of snacks, street food, local fruits, fresh sashimi – all to tantalise the tastebuds. For shopping, you’ll find all manner of souvenirs and Korean-made cosmetics and more to buy at Jungang Underground Shopping Centre.

Stay
Located at the heart of Jeju Island, Hyatt Regency Jeju is near Iho Tewoo beach. The interiors are bright and airy to welcome the outdoors in, with rooms offering beautiful views from the balconies of Hallasan, the sea, and the city.

Discover Northern Sweden’s magnificent nature.

Northern Sweden and the legendary Swedish Lapland are unique. There is nowhere else in the world where you can stay in a hotel made of ice. Or, sit around the campfire with a Sami guide, sharing stories of your day’s dog sledding adventure and sampling souvas, a local delicacy.

See
The midnight sun is a natural phenomenon occurring in summer months at latitudes north of the Arctic Circle where the sun remains visible at midnight. So don’t just stay indoors. Catch a dog sled ride in Europe’s biggest nature reserve – Vindelfjällens, Padjelanta and Sarek National parks, or grab some quiet time fishing for the famous Baltic salmon at Torne River. Really.

Do
Explore the open space. Sweden’s north remains essentially untouched. Roam the forests and search for wild berries, herbs and mushrooms. Even top chefs in Sweden frequently forage the forest for their restaurants. In the summertime, lace up your hiking boots and tackle the world-famous King’s Trail in Kungsleden.

Shop
Sami, the original Swedes, makes traditional crafts of natural materials. If you’re visiting Kiruna, the largest town in Lapland, head for the Carl Wennberg shop at Bergmästaregatan 2 that has been selling Sami arts and crafts since 1907. Look out for jewellery boxes, wooden cups and knives made of reindeer horn.

Stay
The Icehotel, 200 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, is constructed entirely from ice and contains hotel rooms, a bar and art exhibitions. Now guests can enjoy the hospitality and experience year-round, as parts of the hotel will stay open, cooled with solar power from the midnight sun.

For more information, go to Visit Sweden.
